Breifing #12: Liberal Progressivism: Opening the Door from Within for Demonic Invasion through Radical Islam

The attack that is taking place against Western culture through the demonic stronghold of radical Islam is being aided and abetted by the demonic stronghold of liberal progressivism. This second stronghold is destroying our society from within and has the potential of rendering both the Church and our culture helpless in the face of the demonic stronghold of radical Islam.

1. Liberal progressivism is destroying the spiritual vitality of the Christian faith in the U.S.A., Canada, the United Kingdom, and Western Europe.

Liberal progressivism, since it has captivated mainline churches such as the Presbyterian Church (USA) or the United Reformed Church in the United Kingdom, has destroyed the spiritual basis for many people in our society to resist the demonic power that is in the stronghold of radical Islam.

The great deception of liberalism, as we already have defined it, is that it is “Not Christian.” It is opposed to Christianity and destroys from within the Church’s foundations on the authority of Scripture and the profession of faith that proclaims that Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead and is the only way to salvation.

When the Church succumbs to liberal progressivism and puts aside its Biblical worldview, when it rejects its own foundational doctrine that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and the only way to God, the Father, when it closes the door to its own power source, who is the Holy Spirit, and when rejects its own basis of authority, which is the Word of God in the Bible, then it has no power and authority to resist the onslaught of the stronghold of radical Islam.

When the Church loses its own profession of faith, then it has no Good News to offer Muslims or anyone else. David Paulson has written a terrifying and prophetic book in which he predicts that Islam will take over Great Britain unless there is a major revival in the Church in the U.K.

2. The second way through which liberal progressivism is preparing the way for this demonic invasion through radical Islam is that, by destroying the Christian church, it also is destroying the spiritual and philosophical foundations of Western culture.

Liberal progressivism is a whole “grab bag” system of thought that is contrary to our society’s foundations, which are rooted in the Bible and expressed in our country’s Constitution.

The American Constitution is based on certain foundational Biblical principles, such as:

  • Each of us is created in the image of God;
  • God is the ultimate source of moral law and human rights;
  • All human beings are tainted by sin, so there must be limits to government and checks to keep it from becoming tyrannical, as well as limits to individual freedom to prevent it from leading to anarchy.

What makes this whole system work has been our society’s grounding in a Biblical worldview.

What liberal progressivism has done, however, is remove the foundation of a belief in God and, instead, has placed human beings at the top. This has shattered our society’s framework of constitutional freedoms — such as the freedoms of worship and speech, etc. – and, instead, has substituted in their place a narrow, external legalism that ultimately is blinded to the threats that may come against the whole constitutional framework.

This astonishing blindness is shown in President Obama’s statements concerning the mosque proposed at Ground Zero.

This is astonishing and revelatory. First, no one is questioning the right of Muslims or any other faith group to build a place of worship in this country. That is not the issue. Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, and every other faith group imaginable has and is exercising their right to build places of worship in New York.

The problem arises when some people try to reduce this whole issue to just the “right” of Muslims and, in so doing, miss all the other dimensions of the intentions of the Islamists, the sensitivity to those who lost loved ones at 9/11, and the very real threat of a form of “soft Jihad” that is intent on ultimately replacing our American Constitution with Sharia law.

This inability to see the real challenge is consistent with the Obama Administration’s — and, indeed, the liberal progressive elite’s — inability to see and name radical Islam as a threat to not just the U.S.A., but also to Western civilization. The demonic stronghold of liberal progressivism has blinded many people in our society to the true danger that we as a country are in.

The blindness of liberal progressivism ensures that many in our society will not be aware of Satan’s schemes and will not have a clue as to who our enemy is. So, our society will be unable to defend itself against our adversaries, whether they be human or demonic.

How is the Lord calling us to pray?

1. The first and foremost call is a prayer for the Holy Spirit to fall upon the Church in the West – pray for revival.

Right here is where we as PRMI are finding a critical role in working with the Holy Spirit to create those contexts in the Church where Jesus may fulfill Acts 1:8. Pray that we may have the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit to grow the Church and resist this demonic invasion.

The weapons with which we can demolish the strongholds of radical Islam and liberal progressivism are:

These tools are available to us only as we are connected to Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit.

So, pray above all for a mighty moving of the Holy Spirit.

Pray for those movements of the Holy Spirit, including PRMI, that are working for renewal in the Church around the world. We also need to pray for other renewal groups such as GEAR in the U.K., whom God has raised up to call the Church back to its foundations.

2. We also need to pray for those who are working to make the transition from our spiritual roots in the Bible and the Christian faith to our culture and forms of government.

This is what the Founding Fathers of the United States did in writing the Constitution. This revolutionary effort was preceded by, and based on, the development of parliamentary representative government in England.

This project, of course, runs the great danger of reducing the Christian faith to merely civil religion. Whatever the dangers, the effort must be made if our Western culture and democratic government are to have their spiritual roots restored and strengthened. Otherwise, our society will collapse from within.

There are a number of movements taking place in the United States that are restoring these foundations. My daughter Elizabeth is involved in one such movement, the 912 Movement. Elizabeth expresses her perspective on this movement below:

I think we really need to pray that movements like this will grow and deepen in America. I do not know what movements are afoot in the U.K. or Canada that are seeking to restore the foundations of those great nations.

Well, that is enough for one briefing. Thanks for taking seriously this work of prayer from the vantage point of being in this Muslim-majority land. I can see clearly the seriousness of the challenge that we face. Failure is not an option! The consequences would be all that I saw in my apocalyptic visions that launched me in this whole prayer mobilization last March.
